Return to the Box Office: Safety Protocols, ‘Vaccine Passports’, and Whatever Else It Takes

Remember when live music’s biggest concern was mark-ups, bots and resellers? In the past year, our problems became more existential, with empty stadiums and arenas, and concern over when, if ever, the show would go on. Now, with mass vaccinations, there is a whiff of optimism, and some solid ideas about getting back onstage. This session will provide insight into what simple steps and protocols for re-opening will look like. We’re talking screening platforms, minimal face-to-face interaction, and screened invitees. And then there’s one of the most contentious – and maybe inevitable – innovations: a “vaccine passport,” ie., an official health card attesting to the ticket buyer’s immunity. While some see this as an Orwellian invasion of privacy, others can’t wait to get one and see it as the key to ending “super-spreader” events. Let’s talk.
