Tobias Jesso Jr. Named 2023 Recipient of The CMW Nile Rodgers Global Creator Award
CMW 2024 Dates Announced
Canadian Music Week is proud to announce Tobias Jesso Jr as recipient of the CMW 2023 Nile Rodgers Global Creator Award. Merck Mercuriadis, Founder & CEO, Hipgnosis Songs Fund LTD and Hipgnosis Song Management, hosted a virtual presentation of this annual award in conversation with Tobias Jesso Jr and multi-Grammy Award winning producer and composer Nile Rodgers.
“I am beyond grateful and humbled to receive the CMW Nile Rodgers Global Creators Award,” said Tobias Jesso Jr. “I never imagined a career as a behind the scenes songwriter being one with accolades and awards, which is another reason I am so thankful. The only way I can make sense of it is believing that I am actually living my true purpose so the work doesn’t even feel like work, so being awarded feels almost unfair. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, and a special thanks to Nile, Merck and Canadian Music Week for choosing me.”
The CMW Nile Rodgers Global Creators Award was established in 2014 to celebrate the most outstanding of creative geniuses of all ilk who have consistently made an indelible impact on a global scale throughout their careers.
Tobias Jesso Jr. is a Canadian musician and songwriter, originally from North Vancouver. Tobias won the first-ever GRAMMY for Songwriter of The Year non-classical in 2023 for his work with Harry Styles, Adele, FKA Twigs, Orville Peck, King Princess, Diplo, and Omar Apollo. His debut album Goon was released in 2015 where he was nominated for Songwriter of the Year at the 2015 Juno Awards. In 2016, Jesso was the recipient of the SOCAN Breakout Award. As a songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. has written hit songs for Sia, Shawn Mendes, John Legend, Pink, Florence and the Machine, Haim, Miley Cyrus, Daniel Caesar, and more.
