Holly Fagan-Lacoste is a passionate music business professional with over 15 years of experience in music rights, agreement negotiation and partner relations. It was when she received her first humble payment for performing while living in Hawaii that Holly decided that she would marry her creative brain with her business mind to do for a living what is an extension of herself; asserting the value of musical compositions and assuring creatives in the music space were paid and paid properly. This led Holly into the world of jingles, establishing a pre-cleared music library for synch in Canada in 2009, supervision for film/television/games and then partnering with the Los Angeles based company, Music Supervisor Inc. With this partnership Holly was able to expand her understanding of the production world through a contract with Scripps Networks, clearing music for all their channels and award shows. Finally, after moving from Montreal, her hometown, to Toronto in 2012, Holly found a home at SOCAN where the entire mission of the Company is protecting and ensuring the value of music and connecting music business professionals with creators.
Holly has played an integral role in not only developing digital business from its very beginnings in Canada in 2013 but has also made it her purpose to take every opportunity to educate beyond SOCAN walls, for creatives, students and music users alike, on the implications and necessity of assuring rights holders are remunerated when their music is heard and performed in the digital space. From online concerts to online game streaming, the Metaverse and beyondā€¦thereā€™s a license for that!
