Growing the Indigenous-Owned Music Industry
ALLAN SLAIGHT HUMANATRIAN AWARD 2023 Recipient is Digging Roots
(Moderated by: Nicole Auger) The Indigenous music community is thriving artistically yet there is still immense room for growth and development in the Indigenous music industry with regards to supports, infrastructure, and mainstream cultural competencies. Systemic barriers, racism, and colonial structures continue to prevent the Indigenous music community’s narrative sovereignty and full participation in the Canadian economy and culture.
This panel will discuss the critical importance of Indigenous stories and the developing administrative talent in the Indigenous-owned music industry in order to uplift, empower, and amplify Indigenous voices and nurture the future generations of artists and arts entrepreneurs.
