Kalman Szegvary

Kalman Szegvary, is a Toronto-based film producer, director and the Academic Manager as well as the Department Head of the Film & TV Production Program at the Trebas Institute, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He holds a BFA honors degree in Film/TV Production from York University, as well as a Masters of Fine Arts, in Screenwriting & Film Studies, from Hollins University, Roanoke, Virginia. 

Having a personal desire to learn more about education, policy and leadership, he is currently PhD (candidate) at Niagara University, NY, USA, where he is researching the effectiveness of film mentorship during a student’s film-school practicum.

As a director, Kalman is best known for the cult hit, Cannibal Rollerbabes, a horror movie that had a worldwide release and currently available on iTunes. ‘Cannibal’ generated buzz and attention of notorious radio host, Howard Stern. He has been involved in directing/producing feature films, including SOLID COVER with Canadian supermodel Danielle House. He has also worked on TV shows in both Europe and North America. Kalman is also voting member of the Academy of Cinema and Television for the Canadian Screen Awards and attends various functions with the academy. In order to inspire and train filmmakers, Kalman lectures internationally and has become a recognized professor of film and screenwriting internationally, as he has lectured at the Cannes Film Festival as well as Budapest, on screenwriting structure to university students and professionals.  

Over the years, Kalman has pitched scripts and film projects at many of the studios in Hollywood including Universal Studios, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and has guest lectured at Profusion, The Movie Expo, the Milton Film Festival, Vistek during TIFF (Toronto Int’l Film Festival).

Academically, Kalman is proud to announce that his Trebas instructor Kenny Nguyen has recently won the 2022 CCO Career Colleges of Ontario, ‘Excellence in Teaching’ Award.

Kalman runs his own production company, Wildfire Motion Picture Company, has directed the horror film Ed’s Diner, and is development of the animated TV series, Zombie Dad in Romania. Kalman enjoys mentoring and teaching his Trebas Institute Film students as they develop their own unique filmmaking style and career path in the film and television industry.
