Announces Winners For The 2017
Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards

Canadian Music Week is pleased to announce the winners of the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards (CMBIA), which took place April 20, 2017 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Centre Toronto. The CMBIA gala was hosted by Jessi Cruickshank and celebrated the best and brightest in all fields of the Canadian music and broadcast industries.

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush were on hand to receive the 2017 Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award in recognition of the band’s contribution to a wide variety of worthy causes since the early 1970s. As the recipients of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award, Rush received $40,000 CDN, which the band unanimously decided to direct the funds to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook.

Jann Arden, 54β€’40 and Arthur Fogel were also in attendance as 2017 inductees to the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame; and Marilyn Denis received the Allan Waters Broadcast Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards honoured industry from across Canada including: Kelowna’s 99.9 Sun FM for Best Radio Station (Small); Ben Rayner of the Toronto Star was awarded Best Music Journalist/Critic; Barry Stewart from Live 105/Hot Country 103.5 in Halifax for Best Music Directory (Secondary); and Toronto’s Sonic Boom for Best Independent Record Store.
