New Orleans, LA, USA
Jordan Hirsch was born and raised in New Orleans, where he is a writer and an advocate for the city’s cultural tradition bearers. He was a co-founder and Executive Director of Sweet Home New Orleans, a non-profit organization that aided the post-Katrina recovery of the city’s music community. In this capacity he wrote the definitive study of the effects of the flood on local musicians. He consulted on and wrote for the HBO series Treme, and his writing on New Orleans music has appeared in Slate magazine and other outlets. Through the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation, he helped develop A Closer Walk, an interactive map of New Orleans music history sites, which he now edits.
