Minister Michael Chan

Michael Chan was elected to the Ontario Legislature to represent the people of Markham-Unionville in a by-election in 2007, and was successfully re-elected in 2007 and 2011.

During his tenure at Queen’s Park, Michael has served the province as Minister of Revenue, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and currently as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Founder of the Chinese Seniors Health and Recreation Association of Ontario, and former member of the Markham Board of Trade and the Advisory Council for the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery, Michael remains active within his community.

Prior to embarking on his political career, Michael owned and operated a successful insurance brokerage firm, giving him the experience and expertise necessary to understand the needs of a strong and vibrant economy.

Emigrating from Hong Kong over 40 years ago, Michael along with his wife Elaine and their two sons have proudly called Markham their home since 1995.
