
Graham Henderson
Graham Henderson became President of Music Canada (formerly the Canadian Recording Industry Association) in November 2004.
Mr. Henderson also currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Canadian Intellectual Property Council, as a member of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Intellectual Property Commission, and is on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Henderson is active in policy development and as a speaker on intellectual property issues, both in Canada and around the world. He has lectured on IP law at University of Toronto's Faculty of Law and at the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, and for 10 years taught entertainment law at the University of Toronto, where he was an Adjunct Professor.
Prior to joining Music Canada, Mr. Henderson was Senior Vice-President of Business Affairs and eCommerce at Universal Music Canada. There, Mr. Henderson managed Universal’s e-commerce strategy and was instrumental in the launch of Puretracks.com, Canada’s first legal digital music download service.
Mr. Henderson began his legal career in 1987 at Canada’s largest law firm, McCarthy Tétrault, where he became a partner in 1992. In 1993 he left McCarthy’s to found his own practice, which rapidly became the leading entertainment law boutique in Canada. His clients included a veritable who’s who of Canadian music at the time.
Mr. Henderson holds a double major in English Literature and Fine Art History from Guelph University. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in English Literature and a law degree, both from the University of Toronto. He lives in Toronto with his wife Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies and their son Ed.
