Karen Bliss

Founder/Editor (Samaritanmag.com) & Canadian Correspondent for Billboard,
Toronto, ON, Canada
Karen Bliss is an established music journalist who has been the Canadian correspondent for Billboard since 2010. In 2013, she won Music Journalist of the Year at the Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards, voted on by more than 1000 of her music industry peers. Since launching her career in her teens, she has been published more than 150 times by Rolling Stone and her work has also appeared in Pollstar, Hits, Melody Maker, Huffington Post Canada, MSN, Toronto Star and countless others. Her thousands of interviews include Kurt Cobain, Eminem, Shania Twain, Beyonce, Eddie Vedder, Jimmy Page, and Britney Spears.

Because she has a ridiculously fun job, she also founded Samaritanmag.com, an online magazine about charities and causes, as her way of giving back. The music-heavy site has original interviews with Nelly Furtado, The Who’s Pete Townshend, Ed Sheeran, Wu-Tang’s Raekwon, Billy Talent, Avril Lavigne, Michael Buble, Jack Johnson, Drake, One Direction, Metallica, Yoko Ono, Slash, Sammy Hagar, Geddy Lee, Buffy Sainte-Marie and countless others, all about the causes they support. But the site isn’t just about musicians making a difference. Samaritanmag.com has talked to CEOs of major businesses such as A&W, M&M Meat Shops, and Newman’s Own about their corporate giving; covered charity campaigns by companies like Lush, Kiehl’s and Bluenotes; talked to the founders of charities themselves, including many animal rescues (pigs to parrots, donkeys, lions and turtles); and a range of athletes and actors from Carmelo Anthony to Samuel L. Jackson.
