Martin Laflamme

Martin Laflamme joined Global Affairs Canada in 2002.  Originally from Montreal, he was educated at École Polytechnique (B.Ing, Computer Engineering), McGill University (B.A. Hons., East Asian Studies), New College, University of Oxford (M.St. International Human Rights Law) and the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.  At headquarters, he served in the Japan Division, the International Crime and Terrorism Division and with the Afghanistan Task Force at the Privy Council Office.  His most recent assignment in Ottawa was as Deputy Director (political) for Southeast Asia (2014-2017).  Mr. Laflamme also completed several assignments abroad: a three-month posting at the Canadian office in Pristina, Kosovo (2004), a short stint as an election observer in Ukraine the following December, a six-month tour in Kandahar (2007) as Political Advisor to the Canadian Commander as well as three-year postings in Tokyo (2005-2008) and Beijing (2011-2014; 2017-2020).  He is now the Director for Political and Cultural Affairs at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.
