Tafari Anthony is a JUNO nominated Toronto-based pop singer-songwriter and producer. He has written and produced for artists such as Tanika Charles, Drag Race icons Priyanka and Katya, The Fretless, and Nuela Charles. As a solo artist Tafari has self-released three EPs including The Way You See Me (2020) which was nominated for Adult Contemporary Album of The Year at the 2022 JUNO Awards alongside glowing reviews from Billboard and PAPER Magazine. A constant in Tafari’s releases is his powerfully expansive range, dynamic vocal texture, and commitment to putting queer love and relationships at the forefront of his songs.
Like relationships,Tafari’s debut album When I Met Your Girlfriend takes many forms. “Falling Back” (co-produced with Derek Hoffman and Jordyn Woodside) is an up-tempo club ready track, “5:20am (Just Text Me Back)” (co-produced with Hill Kourkoutis) has a punkish edge, “Steady, Waiting, Hoping” (co-produced with Zach Cooper [Coheed and Cambria, Jon Batiste, Leon Bridges, Moses Sumney]) is an impassioned ballad, and “You Could Have It” (co-produced with Colin Janz) twinkles with an island flair. His refreshingly blunt lyrics make listening to WIMYG feel like a conversation with a good friend who always tells it like it is.
