Brett Matthews

Originally hailing from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, musician Brett Matthews brings a refreshing take to the americana genre by combining an eclectic list of influences from Pop and RnB to Country to create a unique expression that is melancholic, nostalgic and beautifully musical. He shares similarities with Bon Iver, City & Colour, Wintersleep and Novo Amor.
Coming from an artistic household, Brett began writing music at the early age of 13, but due to a lack of self-confidence, it wasn’t until later in life that he decided to share his talents with the world.
In 2019 Brett started playing guitar for Canadian hip-hop artist Classified’s touring band after responding to an ad on Facebook, and since then has played 50+ shows with crowds of 500+ people, all while perfecting his craft and growing his audience through solo performances and single releases.

The inspiration for Brett Matthews’ recently released single “If I Die Today” comes from a tragedy in his hometown, and the realization of how unexpected life can be, given that it can be cut short so easily. After playing the song for thousands of people across Canada with excellent response, Brett felt compelled to release the song officially, in hopes of uplifting others in similar situations. Since its release, If I Die Today has amassed over 150K streams and was featured on CTV News and Global News, Country Frontier Spotify playlist, and Formula Americana – CMR Nashville radio station; among several other news outlets, radio stations and blogs.

Some notable performances include the upcoming 2024 ECMA’s. Winter Warmers, The Marquee, Halifax, NS. Junos Wavemakers Tour 2023, Sydney, CB. Unplugged North 2023, The el Mocambo, TO. Area 506 Waterfront Concert Series 2023. Blueberry Jam Festival 2022, CB. Granville Green 2022, NS.
