In the pulsating rhythm of the music industry, Sharmela Sivanayagam emerges as a guiding force, orchestrating financial strategies that harmonize creativity with profitability. A young luminary whose blend of financial prowess and passion for music sets a new tempo in the world of financial planning and analysis for music publishing.

Sharmela entered the world of finance where she immersed herself in the financial accounting process early in her career, then transitioned into audit and tax at top tier accounting firms. Growing up in Toronto, she was captivated by the fusion of artistry and economics, laying the groundwork for her future career. Fuelled by ambition and guided by mentors, she pursued a path that intertwined her two passions.

Armed with determination and academic rigor, Sharmela pursued a degree in Bachelor of Commerce Specialized in Accounting followed by a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting from York University and now is a recognized Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) member of CPA Ontario. Here, she honed her analytical skills and financial acumen, while nurturing her love for music through extracurricular activities. Her education served as a springboard, propelling her into the dynamic world of music publishing with a firm understanding of both its creative and financial dimensions.

The early stages of Sharmela’s career were marked by a rapid ascent, as she distinguished herself as a rising star in audit and tax which now evolved into her current financial planning and analysis. After exploring various career options including working in Finance at GFL Environmental, Auditor at Goodman Mintz, Senior Auditor at KPMG, she joined as a Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis at Anthem Entertainment Group. She quickly proved her mettle, mastering the intricacies of music royalties, licensing agreements, and revenue forecasting. Her ability to translate financial data into actionable insights caught the attention of industry veterans, leading to C-suite discussions and increasing responsibilities.

Outside work, Sharmela remains deeply connected to the rhythm of the music industry with an interest in hip hop, R&B, rap, and soul music, while staying connected to her piano, singing and dance background. She actively engages with emerging artists, attends live performances, and immerses herself in the latest trends, maintaining a finger on the industry’s pulse. Her passion for music not only informs her professional decisions but also infuses her work with a sense of purpose and authenticity.
