From auto-tune to digital recording, fear, ridicule and general objection have greeted first attempts to integrate new technology into the creative and organic enterprise of making music. Leaps in artificial intelligence in songwriting, composing and production modes have revived these objections, even as the far-sighted consider ways to harness AI as a means of supporting artists, rather than replacing them. This panel will look at the difference between generative and assistive AI, discuss issues of “dehumanization,” and introduce metadata as an invaluable tool for getting artists heard on playlists.
