David Botrill & Friends: The Producers Panel Sounds Off

Fittingly, Canada’s producing treasure David Botrill is a man of the world. His client list has stretched from Senegal (Youssou N’dour, Baaba Maal), to Pakistan (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) to the U.K. (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), to the U.S. (Kid Rock, Smashing Pumpkins) and home (Rush). After an In Conversation session with the man himself, we’ll fire up a panel of top colleagues for a discussion of producing in music’s digitally-driven New World. Do genres matter on a connected planet? How many hats can a producer expect to wear (engineer, mixer, sound-shaper, mentor, artist rep, etc.). Does hard work trump talent? And does the studio environment itself shape the sound? Most importantly, is this a job with a future?
