Imagining No Limits: Music Festivals as ‘Lifestyle’ Events

When movies are advertised as having “debuted at SXSW,” you might ask, “Isn’t that a music festival?” But just as the industry itself adapted to changing times, festivals are morphing too. They aren’t fans, but a “tribe.” Food, art, films and social conscience have joined the experience to help festivals create an identity and stand out in the crowd. This is especially true when some fests resist change, like the ones that stuck to a no-cannabis policy when acceptance and legalization are increasingly the norm. This panel will examine a full-experience approach to festival programming, from sponsorship to social responsibility to meeting lifestyle demand.
