An Insider’s View of the Top of the Indie Label World

To paraphrase the Zen koan, if a band fails to attract attention, does it make a sound? Getting noticed is a tall order in a crowded marketplace – especially with modestly-budgeted indie labels that have to rely on DIY. So how does talent end up connecting with people who don’t know they’re fans yet? Savvy indie labels will “go guerilla” if they have to, to make waves on behalf of their artists. This panel of label mavens knows every trick in the book, from the traditional to viral-digital to “stunt marketing,” and they know what gets results. We’ll talk about whether all attention is good attention, how campaigns are monetized, and the psychology of messaging.
