Music Cities Summit: Presentation & Panel Discussion

Collaboration and Cooperation - How to Effectively Build a Coalition

Improving the health and vitality of local music scenes typically requires progress on a broad range of fronts. Sometimes issues can only be resolved through legislative or regulatory change, while other times the solution is best addressed through partnerships and collaboration. No matter what the objective, building consensus around the issues among a cross-section of players, is usually a necessary first step. But coalitions aren't easy to build. In this session, we'll hear from Erin Benjamin, the CEO of the Canadian Live Music Association about its first five years, and then from three other coalition builders about their successes and struggles as they try to collectively affect change.
