Today we are serving Second Last Artist Spotlight Of 2018 realness. The festival is almost here! More artists below!!

Bodhi Jar – London, ON

What has been your favourite show you’ve played so far?

Crown Lands was kind enough to have us out to the (sold out) Mustache Club for their EP release. The energy in the room was electric and it felt like every bit of passion we put out was reflected right back from the crowd. There is no better feeling in this world then when a whole bunch of people can get on the same wavelength and truly connect.

Who are your biggest influences?

This is a hard one as each member has some very different influences that we bring to the writing process. Some of the bands that we draw influence from collectively are The Mars Volta, Circa Survive, Incubus, At The Drive In, Rage Against The Machine, Dave Matthews Band, Death Grips, DFA 1979, Thrice, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and a myriad of others. The list is almost endless but those are some favourites.

Who are some of your favourite local artists?

Crown Lands, Romancer, PUP, Output, Cleopatrick, Heart Attack Kids, Species of Trees, The Dirty Nil, Texas King, Wine Lips, Olivia and The Creepy Crawlies, Lost Arts, Brighter Green and the list is almost endless. There is so much talent in Southern Ontario, get out to a show and find out what you’re missing!
What is your favourite carb?

We are a breaded Chicken and Waffle band! Has there ever been a better combination? No… the answer is no.

What are you most excited for at CMW this year?

Aside from the tons of local artists we get to see the show highlight has got to be Slow, Dirty Nil and Single Mothers! We are beyond stoked to see that lineup. Hearing Steve Lillywhite speak is also a pretty crazy thought. Honestly we’re really just looking forward to taking in as many shows and panels as possible and really getting the most out of our CMW experience.

Grace Lachance – Ottawa, ON

What was the first concert you attended?

The first concert that I attended was Carrie Underwood. I remember it clearly because I was so excited and eager to go! I got the tickets as a birthday present and I honestly had the time of my life.

What is your favourite thing about your city?

My favourite thing about Ottawa is the atmosphere, the energy, and the people. It’s really refreshing, the live music scene is great, and I love the shopping!

What are you most excited for at CMW this year?

I am really excited to perform on stage, to meet new people and to listen to unique artists!

Which animal would you like to be reincarnated as?

Definitely a Wolf. Wolves are really fascinating and strong animals.

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

I remember my great-grandmother telling me that the most important key to success is to consider every opportunity and experience as a “big deal.” She said that as soon as someone deems an opportunity as trivial or, “not a big deal,” they’re setting themselves up for failure. Everything has to be a “big deal” in order to succeed. This advice has always guided me throughout my career.

MIMICO – Toronto, ON

What is your favourite thing about Toronto?

Favourite thing about the city would have to be the current availability of exceptional legal drugs 🔥.

Where are some of your favourite take-out spots?

Favourite take-out then would be visiting the fine folks at Sprout Greenery in Parkdale, to get said drugs 🔥 (preferably before MIMICO’s CMW showcase).

What song can’t you skip if it comes on?

No one will be skipping through the “New Haze” when we drop our 🔥 EP next month.

What are you most excited for at CMW this year?

We’re excited to share an intimate set with old friend (reliable) SCOTT HARDWARE at the Monarch May 12!

Who are some of your favourite local artists?

Say hi stay high all night 🔥🔥🔥 .

NUSSY – Melbourne, Australia

What has been your favourite show you’ve played to date?

My favourite show was probably playing the closing party of Music Matters last year – it was such a great vibe because everyone was super keen for a big party! I also loved touring with Asta and Georgi Kay a few years ago – so awesome to have a full female line-up!

What are you listening to right now?

I am loving Tove Styrke at the moment! Also Hayden James’ new one , ‘Just Friends’ – such a funky vibe!

What are you most looking forward to at CMW?

I’ve never been to Canada, let alone played shows there so it’s super exciting to come and show everyone how we do it Down Under! I’m also looking forward to connecting with new artists and checking out the scene in Toronto.

What is your favourite thing about your city?

We have an awesome music culture here – there are so many creatives doing different things and so many awesome venues fostering the projects that are coming out.

What is your favourite junk food?

McDonald’s – I’ve actually invented my own burger 😉 It’s called the McNuss – a cheeseburger with a hash brown inside. It’s perfect because everyone loves to put fries in their burger, but with a hash brown, it’s just like a patty of fries and then none of them fall out! I’ve put A LOT of thought into this (haha!) and everyone who has had it LOVES it – I’m just waiting for Macca’s to pick it up!

WHOOP-Szo – London, ON

What was the first album you bonded over as a band?
