It’s impossible not to become infatuated with “retro-pop queen AIDA.” Proudly wearing her TWA, and always clad in 90s reminiscent outfits, the Paris-born Canadian-based singer is guaranteed to get you light on your feet.
Growing up she put on shows for herself at home, singing to tunes her mother had on repeat. She started writing her own poetry in elementary school. She sang for the first time to a live audience at the age of 8. She soon started to combine her vocal performances with dance and acting.
At around 10 years old, AIDA began writing her own pop songs, which she performed to close friends over the phone. At that time, her mother had enrolled her in local choir and hip hop dance classes. By 14, she joined her first band of Alt-RnB, shortly before moving to Montreal.
At the age of 15, AIDA realised her long time dream of moving to North America for music. She quickly met with Fresco Klub, the music production trio behind her debut ep My Retrospective. Three music videos were released to support this ep. The project garnered international attention through mediums like The Fader and Afropunk.
AIDA moved to Toronto in 2016, and released Toastin’ two years later in collaboration with famed producer Lonnie Szoke. She is closely working with Lonnie on her second album Talkin’ To Myself planned for release in September 2019. To start off 2019 in proper shape, AIDA released Ghostin’ produced by Japanese sound engineer Initial Talk.
