    MUSIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR (SMALL MARKET up to 199,999)

    MUSIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR (SECONDARY SIZE MARKET 200,000-499,999)

    MUSIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR (MAJOR MARKET 500,000+)

    In order to be considered for final nominations in this category, stations must submit a completed submission form. In 50 words or less, briefly describe why you believe this entry is worthy of recognition for Music Director of the Year. Your summary must be based on the following criteria:

    • Ears/Hit Picker – reputation for fair evaluation of new product as well as picking and making the hits.
    • Profile – effort to attend shows and industry events relative to the market and industry
    • Extra Mile – takes the extra step to expose or champion a Canadian artist.
    • Accessibility for promo calls, meetings and providing feedback – recognized by both staff and industry as a team player in all aspects of the radio station.

    • Programming – provide highlights over the eligibility period.
    • Business Performance – developing new business, assisting with generation of sales.
    • Promotions – overview of promotion highlight(s) over the eligibility period.
    • Ratings – Outline of performance in terms of share.
    • Career Development – examples of team building, talent relations, assistance in developing a personality
      success story.

    ON-AIR TALENT OF THE YEAR (MAJOR MARKET)

    In order to be considered for final nominations in this category, stations must submit a completed submission form. In 50 words or less, briefly describe why you believe this entry is worthy of recognition for On-Air Talent of the Year. Your summary must be based on the following criteria:

    • Community Involvement – Is this someone who is accessible and cares about investing in the community.
    • Ratings – Outline of performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over Spring and Fall BBM)

    You must submit a 2 – 3 minute air check in MP3 format, with a maximum file size of 5MB.

    In order to be considered for final nominations in categories 8 through 17, stations must submit a completed submission form. In 50 words or less, briefly describe why you believe this entry is worthy of recognition for Station of the Year. Your summary must be based on the following criteria:

    • Ratings – Outline of performance in terms of share with target demos (12+ average over Spring and Fall BBM)
    • Community Service – Outline the greatest single or continuing contribution to the community in the calendar year for 2013.
    • Building Canadian Talent – Outline the station’s contribution to the assistance of building Canadian talent on radio. Note: For talk radio, this outline should be based on coverage for special events.
    • Exceptional Performance or Achievement – Outline the station’s performance highlights for 2016.

    RADIO PROMOTION OF THE YEAR (this award is presented at the “Promotion Panel” during Canadian Music Week.)

    In order to be considered for final nominations in this category, stations must submit a completed submission form. Briefly describe why you believe this entry is worthy of recognition for Promotion of the Year. Your summary must be based on the following criteria:

    • Target Market
    • Budget
    • Promotion Partners
    • Concept
    • Components and Execution
    • Challenges
    • Results
    • Objectives
    • Was it a Success?

    Samples of materials must be submitted for components used (ie: radio creative, print creative, tv creative, outdoor creative, media coverage, website creative, newsletter component).

    NOTE: Submissions can be of a charity or station-driven nature and are not necessarily required to be music related.

    There is a $30.00 submission fee per station. This fee allows for submissions to Radio Station of the Year, Music Director of the Year, Program Director of the Year, On-Air Talent of the Year and Promotion of the Year.

    PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE OF THE YEAR (over 1,500 capacity)

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the number of acts booked, support of Canadian talent. A Performing Arts Centre is a “soft-seat” theatre with reserved seating

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the number of acts booked, support of Canadian talent. A Major Facility is an amphitheatre, arena or stadium.

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the management company’s accomplishments and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the number of acts booked, support of Canadian talent. A Major Facility is an amphitheatre, arena or stadium.

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the management company’s accomplishments and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    BOOKING AGENCY OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the booking agency’s accomplishments and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    PROMOTER OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the promoter’s accomplishments and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period. This award is presented to an individual.

    CASINO/SPECIALTY VENUE OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the number of acts booked, support of Canadian talent. A Specialty Venue is a venue whose primary activity is not live entertainment.

    INDEPENDENT RECORD STORE OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the record store’s sales service, local promotions and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the retailer’s sales service, promotions and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

  • Award 32
    CANADIAN INDEPENDENT LABEL OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, the independent label must have released Canadian product for sale at the retail level. Other criteria to take into consideration include the label’s service, promotion and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.
  • Award 33
    INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the distributor’s sales service, and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    MUSIC JOURNALIST/CRITIC OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the journalist’s overall music coverage as well as support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    MUSIC PUBLICIST OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the publicist’s overall exposure/coverage and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.

    MUSIC SCHOOL OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the music school’s history including curriculum, student registration and alumni accomplishments during the eligibility period.
  • Award 37
    MUSIC PUBLISHER OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, nominator must take into consideration the music publisher’s accomplishments and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.
  • Award 38
    MAJOR LABEL OF THE YEAR

    In order to be considered for final nomination in this category, the label must have released Canadian product for sale at the retail level. Other criteria to take into consideration include the label’s service, promotion and support of Canadian talent during the eligibility period.
  • The following categories are non-voting categories.

  • MUSIC INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME:
    This award recognizes the individual who has contributed their talents behind the scenes to promote and advance Canadian artists domestically or abroad. Inductees are determined by a panel of judges comprised of Canadian music industry professionals. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. One Award or two Awards may be presented.

  • BROADCAST INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME (THE WATERS FAMILY BROADCAST LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD):
    This award is presented to a broadcaster to acknowledge their extraordinary contribution to the broadcast industry. Inductees are determined by a panel of judges comprised of Canadian music industry professionals. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. One Award or two Awards may be presented.

  • STEVE YOUNG BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR:
    The Steve Young Award was created in the memory of its namesake to honour a rising star in the Canadian broadcast industry. The recipient is chosen by “The Friends of Steve Young”, a Canadian broadcaster committee, and will be awarded annually to a broadcaster under the age of thirty.

  • ALLAN SLAIGHT HUMANITARIAN SPIRIT AWARD:
    This notably respected award is bestowed to an individual having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of humanitarian service and in doing so, has reflected those ideals of courage and compassion. These contributions are primarily seen as activities, which promote the welfare of human-kind, especially through the alleviation or elimination of pain, suffering and hunger. The humanitarian activities may form a life-long pattern or be expressed in a single, widely noted occurrence.

  • NIELSEN BDS CUTTING EDGE AWARD:
    Awarded to the station that was first to to play the most Canadian songs that went on to reach the top 20 on the weekly Nielsen BDS format charts during the eligibility period.

  • NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN CANADIAN AWARD:
    Awarded to the label/distributor with the most Canadian artists appearing in the weekly top 50 album charts during the eligibility period.
