Origin of Spin (Adam Parwez) is a Pakistani/Canadian beatmaker who produces a mix of 90’s Boom Bap, Trip-Hop, Downtempo, Jazz and Electronic beats, currently residing on Treaty 4 territory in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Raised in the analog era of turntables, drum machines and samplers, he navigates through technology in the digital age searching for sounds which invoke emotion, passion and impact the listener in a creatively profound way.
As a follow up to his 2019 beat-tape “BLVNT TAPE VOL. 1”, Origin of Spin has just released his first album “Abstract Perception”, a collection of various songs produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Origin of Spin during his 6 years in Vancouver, Canada. Surrounded by synthesizers, samplers, talented producers/multi-instrumentalists such as AstroLogical (1/2 of Canadian duo Potatohead People), Jazz guitarist Truman Schaefer & singer/songwriter Ava Wild, Origin of Spin creates a surreal blend of Trip-Hop and Experimental Electronica through an abstract beat-making approach, with the intention that listeners can vibe out in a different head space and get lost in adventure or a state of flow.
Origin of Spin was born in Pakistan and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada. He moved to Vancouver, BC to attend Pacific Audio-Visual Institute in 2012, where he graduated with a diploma in Audio Engineering & Music Production. He then spent 6 years in Vancouver with the Chapel Sound collective, playing a weekly DJ residency at OPUS Hotel in downtown Vancouver and opened for acts such as The Internet, People Under the Stairs, Zion I, DJ Q-Bert, Dam-Funk, MYKA 9 & Factor Chandelier, and Def3. He also played and performed at festivals such as Quadrapalooza (2014-Quadra Island, BC) & Chapel Sound Festival (2016-Vancouver, BC). In 2018, he moved back to Saskatchewan to pursue further education.
Today in 2020, rapping as an MC for Saskatchewan based 8-piece Hip-Hop/R&B band, People of the Sun, and a part of the 11 Hooks art collective (led by Saskatoon artist Wizwon), he actively engages in collaborations with local artists, networking, and supports shows and projects within the local scene wherever he may be. Has hosted his own series of Hip-Hop events at The Mercury Café, seeking out local talent to create and collaborate with, performed & DJ’d at the Cathedral Village Arts Festivals, and created a bi-weekly DJ night at Bodega in Regina, SK.
