Born in a musical family of six from KwaMashu in Durban. Khanyo started singing
professionally at the tender of age of 13 when she was cast for lead vocals in the musical
play Sarafina. She stayed with Sarafina for four years, traveling internationally. At the age of
17, Khanyo had started recording with South Africa’s leading talents such as Rebecca
Malope, Jonas Gwand. Khanyo has been featured on more than 50 local and international
albums as well as duets with legendary artists such as Hugh Masekela and many others and
also sharing a song with R Kelly. Khanyo has also starred in the award-winning plays Hair,
Stamping, Mzansi (Produced by Caiphus Simenya and Quincy Jones), and vibrating Africa.
Belt. She has also been privileged enough to be on the soundtrack and record music for
movies such as TSOTSI and the LION KING.
It is a privilege and horner to announce that Khanyo had an honor of being an ambassador
for the Dalphic Olympics; she was presented with 3 awards between 2014 to 2015 namely
The Drakensberg Promotions honorary award, SA Fabulously full figured woman and the
KwaMashu Achievers Awards. Khanyo has released 3 albums with the fourth one complete
and due for release at the right time.
