Founded in 1997 as a not-for-profit, Re:Sound licenses businesses that play recorded music, on behalf of musicians and record companies. Businesses licensed by Re:Sound include commercial radio, satellite radio, some streaming services, as well as hotels, gyms, restaurants, retail, etc.
Prior to Re:Sound, Ian headed up his own consulting firm, giving strategic and business advice to clients in music, publishing, broadcasting and media production. He was previously Senior Vice-President at Sony Music Entertainment (Canada) Inc., where he oversaw Business Affairs, Music Licensing, the Creative Lab and was an integral driver of the company’s strategic planning and business processes.
Prior to Sony, Ian practiced law at McCarthy Tétrault, specializing in entertainment, advertising and marketing law.
Ian holds an MBA from the Rotman School at the University of Toronto, an LLB (University of Toronto) and a Master’s degree in History from Oxford University.
