Justin Kalifowitz is the President of Downtown Music Publishing LLC, a New York based rights management business.

Established in 2007, Downtown now controls over 60,000 song copyrights spanning sixty years of popular music. The Company represents such diverse names as John Lennon & Yoko Ono, legendary hard rock band Motley Crue, celebrated film composer Hans Zimmer and the pop/dance artist Ellie Goulding. The Company’s roster of professional songwriters have recently penned hit singles for artists such as Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars, Jay-Z, Katy Perry and Phillip Phillips. In its most recent survey, Billboard Magazine named Downtown as the #6 music publisher on the Hot 100.

At Downtown, Justin has launched several other music related businesses including Songtrust, a music technology platform that provides royalty collection and administration tools for thousands of independent songwriters and corporate clients; dms.FM, a premium production music library for film and television and Music And Strategy, a music consulting firm for brands and ad agencies. Downtown also operates the Downtown Music Studios, a world-class recording facility in Manhattan’s Soho district.

Prior to launching Downtown Music Publishing, Justin spent six years as Head of A&R at Spirit Music Group where, at age 23, he was named one of Billboard’s "30 Under 30" Top Executive. During his tenure with Spirit, Kalifowitz managed the song catalogs of such legendary artists as Bob Marley, Lou Reed and Chaka Khan. He previously held A&R and Marketing positions with Virgin Records and RCA Music Group.

An advocate for songwriters and music publishers, Justin frequently contributes to industry publications, has spoken at conferences including MIDEM, SXSW and the World Copyright Forum and serves on the board of Association of Independent Music Publishers.

Born and raised in New York, Justin was educated at the City University of New York— Baruch College and the University of Southern California. In 2011, he was named to Crain’s “40 Under 40” Rising Stars of New York Business.
