Byron Pascoe is a music lawyer.
He works with performing artists, producers, managers and music companies across Canada, including to help them understand and negotiate the agreements they’re asked to sign. He also prepares agreements that his clients want others to sign.
He helps his clients with producer, record label, publishing, distribution, management, and other music agreements, and also provides advice and assistance with their business structures.
Along with Ottawa Music Industry Coalition and Capital Rehearsal Studios, on behalf of Byron’s law firm, Edwards PC, Creative Law (www.edwardslaw.ca), Byron co-founded and co-manages the Independent Music Business series (www.independentmusicbusiness.ca), which since March 2016 has provided free monthly music business workshops to our capital’s music community.
Byron also contributes the legal column to Ottawa's music publication, OTTAWA BEAT, and has contributed articles to Canadian Musician, Bandzoogle, etc.
He’s a board member of the Ottawa-based music conference/festival MEGAPHONO, the Ottawa-based independent film collective SAW Video, and Artists’ Legal Services Ottawa. He’s also an executive member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Entertainment, Media and Communications Law Section.
Byron began his professional career managing a TV and new media production company that produced comedy programming for Canadian and U.S. TV networks. During Law School, he co-founded the Charter Project, a national education initiative about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He produced public service announcements about the Charter featuring Canadian celebrities.
