As the leader of Memphis tourism for the past 25 years Kane has led the effort of merging Memphis’ iconic music heritage with tourism and hospitality. He developed the phrase “Memphis – Home of the Blues, Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Co-Chaired the global celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Rock‘n’Roll with the city of Liverpool in 2004, and in 2007 the “Celebration of 50 years of Soul”. Kane is past Chairman of the International Blues Foundation headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, Board member and past Chairman of the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum – an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute. He is a member of the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, assisted in the establishment of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, and sits on the board of Memphis in May International Festival. Kane also sits on the Executive Board of the U.S. Travel Association in Washington, D.C., is past Chairman and Board member of Destination Marketing Association International, and has been a featured speaker on “Marketing Cities” through Music and Culture” in Europe, Asia, and Central America. Kane is a lifelong Memphian and a passionate supporter of Memphis music.
