Kevin McManus

Head of Creative & Digital (Investment),
Liverpool Vision
Liverpool, UK
Kevin led on Liverpool’s successful bid in 2015 to become a UNESCO City of Music and is taking this designation forward on behalf of the city.

He has been involved in the music industry for over 30 years and aged 18 he was covering Liverpool music for the New Musical Express (NME). He went on to cover the city’s music and culture for influential publications such as The Face, ID and Mixmag, as well as the NME, for many years.

Kevin spent some time in academia working at the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Popular music, writing two books and co-writing another during this period. All examined the social and economic influences on Liverpool music in the twentieth century. He also co-authored a publication on culture and regeneration for the Arts Council of England.

Now working for Liverpool Vision, over the last 15 years Kevin has provided support for creative and digital industries in Liverpool. One of the highlights of this period being the creation of the annual Liverpool Sound City music conference and festival. He was also responsible for another strategically important initiative in the development of the Baltic Creative Community Interest Company, which owns and manages 40,000 square feet of property on behalf of the creative sector in the city. Hugely successful in its own right Baltic Creative also served to act as a catalyst for the revitalisation and regeneration of the Baltic Triangle area of the city.

He was part of the small team that managed and wrote Liverpool’s successful bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2008.

One of Kevin’s proudest moments was being part of the management team that had a UK Christmas Number One single in 2012. The record served to raise awareness of the campaign to seek justice for those people who lost family members while attending a Liverpool football match at Hillsborough stadium.
