David Basskin

David Basskin Consulting Inc.
David Basskin is a lawyer, consultant and educator. Called to the Bar of Ontario in 1979, he received his B.A. from the University of Toronto, his LL.B. and LL.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School and an M.B.A. from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. A lifelong resident of Toronto, Mr. Basskin was a Law Clerk to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Ontario and Legal Counsel to CMRRA Ltd. and Nelvana Ltd. before joining the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. (CMRRA) in 1989 as its President and Chief Executive Officer. CMRRA is Canada’s largest music licensing agency, representing the majority of music publishers and copyright owners doing business in Canada. On their behalf, CMRRA issues licenses and collects royalties for the reproduction of musical works on CD, the Internet and in other markets. Mr. Basskin led CMRRA for 24 years through a time of rapid growth and challenge and retired from the Agency in 2013. Since then, he has taught Business Law at Ryerson University and acted as a consultant on legal and business issues associated with copyright and music licensing. Mr. Basskin is the creator and host of “Stolen Moments”, airing every Friday night on JAZZ.FM91, Canada’s only all-jazz radio station.
