Mr. Hlynur Gudjonsson is the Icelandic Trade Commissioner for North America and the Icelandic Consul for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Since taking this position in 2006, Mr. Gudjonsson has built the Consulate General’s office into a business and trade hub. With his strategic direction, the economic opportunities between the United States and Iceland have significantly increased, specifically in the areas of seafood, tourism, energy, foreign direct investment and culture. As Managing Director of Iceland Naturally, a combined consul of Icelandic brands, Mr. Gudjonsson has contributed to the successful repositioning of Iceland to North American tourists and consumers and improved the country’s overall brand image.

Mr. Gudjonsson has more than 20 years of experience as a strategist and managing director for public relations, advertising and political campaigns. Prior to joining the Consulate General’s office, Mr. Gudjonsson served as brand manager for Icelandic USA, Inc., a global seafood importer, wholesaler and manufacturer, where he developed and executed the company’s strategic branding initiatives.

Mr. Gudjonsson holds a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communication from Emerson College in Boston and a bachelor’s degree in Political History from the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. In addition to his role as Consul and Trade Commissioner, Mr. Gudjonsson serves as the General Manager of the Icelandic-American Chamber of Commerce. He is also on the board of the Icelandic-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Founder of the Foreign Trade Commissioner’s Association in New York, of which he has been Chairman since 2006. His master's thesis on nation branding was published in The Journal of Place Branding.
