Olaf Furniss

Journalist/Consultant/Event Organizer,
Olaf Furniss is a journalist and founder of the Scottish music business event organisation, Born To Be Wide, which hosts the annual Wide Days [April 10-11] convention in Edinburgh.

He has extensive experience covering Nordic music markets/scenes for media including Music Week, Billboard, the BBC, The Scotsman and The Guardian, and has developed particularly strong ties in Norway and Iceland. From 2004-2011, Olaf was hired by the region's largest music business event, Bylarm, to provide programming and PR advice. He has also consulted for industry conventions Reeperbahn Festival and Berlin Music Week, as well as UK Music and the BPI. In addition to organising his own events, he is currently working with Go North [Inverness] and Sonic Visions [Luxembourg].

Olaf has given guest lectures at universities and colleges including: University of the Highlands & Islands, University of the West of Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University, the Academy of Music & Sound [Edinburgh, Glasgow & Newcastle], the Popakademie [Mannheim, Germany] and Hedmark University [Rena, Norway].
