Epe (Kari) Helenius is one of the longest running veterans in the Finnish Music business and still involved full time. Born in Tampere 1950, studied economics and commercial law in Tampere University . After on/off DJ –jobs, entered music business for real when opening an import record shop in 1972 (and still owns the store, called Epe’s Music Shop). Started one the most successful and biggest indie record companies, Poko Rekords 1977 and sold it to EMI 2001. After that acted as the managing director of Poko Rekords until 2011. Along with running Poko for EMI, Epe started two new indie companies, 2008 Sound Of Finland (sole owner) and 2010 Ratas Music Group in partnership with EMI’s former head of A&R and some key artist. Ratas was acquired by Sony Music Finland 2010, with Epe still remaining Managing Director.

Epe is also the owner and CEO of the biggest independent music publishing group in Finland , Poplandia Music , started in 1978. He has been at the same time involved in various music business projects and associations being one of the founders of Finnish Music and Media –convention and MUSEX (Finnish Music Export Office) and a board member of IFPI-Finland since 1990 (vice-chairman from 2000 until now), among others.

In March 2013 at EMMA-gaala (Finnish equivalent to Grammies), Epe Helenius was awarded with a very rarely granted Golden Emma for his lifetime achievements in the Finnish music business.
