Josh O’Kane

The Globe and Mail
Toronto, ON, Canada
Josh O’Kane is a technology reporter with The Globe and Mail's Report on Business. He joined the newspaper in 2011, and for the past six years has covered how the Internet is reshaping the ways music is made and consumed.

He has profiled artists including Drake, Kaytranada, Carly Rae Jepsen and Alessia Cara, travelled to Stockholm for features on Spotify and the quiet global influence of Swedish pop, scoured the Nova Scotian coast to investigate the destruction of an unknown piece of Stan Rogers’ legacy, and once interviewed Pup’s guitarist in the nosebleeds of the SkyDome as the Blue Jays lost 13-2 to Tampa Bay.

His 2016 book, Nowhere With You, is a national bestseller, and examines the music and career of Joel Plaskett through the lens of leaving and staying in Canada's Maritime provinces.

Josh has been shortlisted for a Canadian Online Publishing Award, and in 2018 was part of the Globe team that won the Society of American Business Editors and Writers’ Best in Business Canada Award for breaking news. He’s previously written for the Saint John Telegraph-Journal, New Brunswick’s Here Magazine, Exclaim! Magazine, OpenFile.ca, the Canadian University Press and the Toronto Star.
