Dean Nelson is an Engineer/Mixer from Los Angeles, CA and is currently teaching Production and Pro-Tools as well as serving as curriculum advisor at the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART) in London, Ontario.

Dean was raised in Greenville, NC and graduated with Honors from the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology in 2000.

After graduating from OIART, Dean relocated to Los Angeles after landing his first gig as a Runner at Ocean Recording in Burbank. He quickly began assisting on projects for Producers, Neal Avron, Mark Trombino, and Ethan Johns. Following a desire to work more on the mixing side of record making, Dean moved on to Chalice Studios in Hollywood to assume the role Staff Assistant/Engineer, which eventually led to a position at legendary Ocean Way Studios on Sunset Boulevard. The room that was assigned to Dean was “Studio A”, which had been occupied by Jack Joseph Puig (Producer, Mixer and Engineer of albums like, The Black Crowes, Jellyfish & John Mayer) for over a decade. There he began a five-year mentoring/working relationship with Jack that eventually grew from Assistant Engineer to Engineer. During his tenure with Jack, Dean assisted/engineered projects for the Rolling Stones, Fergie’s Grammy nominated hit, "Big Girls Don't Cry", Mary J. Blige and U2. In addition to his engineering duties, Dean also assisted Jack and Waves with the first Producer/Mixer-developed Plug in, PuigChild and PuigTec.

Equipped with immense knowledge and experience of both the technical and business sides of record making, Dean was offered a job as Beck's day-to-day Engineer and Mixer. In this role, he recorded and/or mixed an array of projects including, Stephen Malkamus and the Jicks latest “Mirror Traffic”, Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore’s current album “Demolished Thoughts”, “The Record Club” projects, Charlotte Gainsbourg's "IRM"and the just released “Stage Whisper” and Jamie Lidell's "Compass”.

Recently Dean has worked with Buck 65, Toronto local Valery Gore and the Los Angeles band Bikos.
