TORONTO, ON – December 1 2017 – Canadian Music Week is pleased to announce the first round of mission participants for the 2018 FOCUS ON MEXICO. Every year CMW hosts missions from different countries as part of CMW’s International Trade Program. This mission marks the first-ever Official delegation from MEXICO to participate in a full trade program at Canadian Music Week.

CMW will provide a comprehensive music market report which will be available to the Canadian music industry at large, as well as CMW delegates, in advance of the mission.
Mexico is One of the World’s Top Growth Markets
The music market in Mexico is the 2nd largest in Latin America, increasing by 23.6% last year to a total revenue of US $133.5 million. It ranks 15th worldwide, according to the latest Global Music Report published by The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry
(IFPI), moving up from #17 in 2015. The phenomenal market growth is driven by streaming, which jumped 60.7% year over year, to US $71.4 million, and was responsible for the majority of industry revenue in Mexico in 2016 at 53.5% of the total. They rank #8 for synchronization, #14 for Digital, and #17 for Physical. With a population of more than 120 million, Mexico creates a potential hotbed for live touring. Mexico is a cost-effective touring opportunity for export-ready artists looking to increase their audience and attract new fans.
The incoming mission is produced in partnership with the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Music and the Arts (CAAMA).
The FOCUS ON MEXICO is scheduled for Thursday, May 10, 2018 at The Sheraton Centre Hotel. Activities include a panel on the Mexican music market, with panelists from Mexico also featured throughout CMW’s regular programming menu. There are opportunities for formal and informal networking. CMW’s International Marketplace will present a series of curated, targeted business-to-business (B2B) meetings between CMW delegates and the incoming Mexican delegates. The International Marketplace at CMW will host a VIP networking reception for the Mexican mission participants.
The FOCUS ON MEXICO takes place during The Canadian Music Week conference and festival, which runs May 7-13 and spans seven nights of performances, with 500 showcasing artists at 40+ live music venues in downtown Toronto.

ALFONSO MURIEDAS, Artistic Director – Festival Nrmal & NODO.TV PROFILE: Formerly part of the programming team in MUTEK MX Festival, Alfonso developed MUTEK_LAB, an initiative dedicated to academic interaction and knowledge exchange. OFFF México, a festival focused on the post-digital culture; Distrital Film Festival and All My Friends Music Festival in Tijuana are also part of his work as a producer. IÑIGO VILLAMILL, CEO – Distrito Global (Festival Producer, Promoter: City Bahidora and Tropico Acapulco) PROFILE: Iñigo Villamil is co-founder and CEO of Distrito Global; an agency based on the CDMX specialized in the design and production of cultural events and collective experiences. From his position also serves as general director of the Carnaval de Bahidorá, an important independent festival of music, art and international culture. His main focus is on production design and executive production, his role as director has also allowed him extensive experience in the development of various tools and services relevant to the cultural environment, with emphasis on content design, public relations strategies and marketing strategies, building with it a network of high level professionals around the agency and its projects.

LYNN FAINCHTEIN, Founder, Music Supervisor – Casete PROFILE: Lynn Fainchtein is known for her work on The Revenant (2015), Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) and Babel (2006). Lynn Fainchtein has taken her musical experience to an ample range of mediums, which include film, television, radio, journalism and recording. She has worked as producer and musical supervisor on numerous films. One of her long-standing contributions has been w ith the acclaimed Mexican Film Director Alejandro González Iñarritu on all his films: Biutiful (nominated for the Academy Award), Babel, 21 Grams, and Amores Perros (nominated for the Academy Award). More recently the worldwide acclaimed Birdman and The Revenant. In addition, Lynn has collaborated with Lee Daniels on his award winning film, Precious (Winner at The Sundance Film Festival). Among many other films, some she has musically supervised are: La Misma Luna, Sin Nombre, Miss Bala, as well as Maria Llena Eres de Gracia and Loveforever from Carlos Moreno both Sundance winners and official selections. Lynn regularly collaborates with Canana Films, the production company founded by Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, where she has musically supervised all of their films, which include Abel, Déficit and Chavez, Lee Daniels on The Paperboy, Walter Salles with On the Road, both films participants of 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Recently she supervised Patricia Riggen’s The 33, Luis Estrada’s La Dictadura Perfecta, Jerry Jameson’s Captive, Manolo Caro’s Amor de Mis Amores, as well as the HBO series Sr. Avila II and God Inc, among other projects including Cirque du Soleil’s new show Luzia. Currently she´s dedicated to both Netflix series: Ingobernable and Club de cuervos. On the other hand, Lynn has done extensive work as a producer as well: Animated film El Santos VS la Tetona Mendoza in 2012, the musical documentary Hecho en México (2012) and documented the Mexican election process in 0.56% ¿Qué le pasó a México? He has more than 15 years of experience in cultural management. He split his time between Mexico and Colombia, working on the development and content management for cultural and musical projects. He works with Circulart in Medellin as International Advisor, with the University of Guadalajara as special projects Coordinator and Manager & Content director for FIMPRO (International Music Fair of Guadalajara). Co-Founder of Tantaka Ideas and Culture, a consulting company.
