Going country? A radio revolution reaches Ottawa

When it comes to competition in one of the country’s most competitive radio markets, it all comes down having the right format.

As BOB-FM listeners discovered earlier this week, playing “the hits” just doesn’t cut it anymore.

BOB is now turning into New Country 94, a radio station targeted at listeners of country music — one of the fastest growing genres in music today.

Paul Tuch, director of Canadian operations at Nielsen Co., which tracks music sales in various countries, has said country music as a genre has been steadily increasing in sales since 2010 as new stars such as Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line have emerged.
