Ad Cents: How Your Band Could Define A Brand

Ellie Goulding’s cover of Your Song in a department store ad so impressed Prince William that she performed at the heir-to-the-throne’s wedding reception. Apple has used so many artists in ads (Feist, The Dandy Warhols, Big Boi, Royal Blood, etc.) it’s worth a compilation album. Conversely, a hit musical hook has become de rigueur in the advertising world, to the extent that a savvy artist can target a song to sell product worldwide. This panel has the straight goods on the principles of advertising – including messaging, engagement, composition and syncing to visuals – that you can apply to selling your sound to sales.
