Your Favorite Enemies is a Montreal rock band that was formed in 2006 by Alex Foster (vocals), Jeff Beaulieu (guitar), Sef (guitar), Ben Lemelin (bass), Miss Isabel (vocals and keyboard) and Charles “Moose” Allicy (drums). When getting together they decided to manage every single aspect of the band's career based on their community values and their "do it yourself" attitude. Their distinctive blend of dirty and polished melodic textures and their introspective, empowering lyrics are influenced by such bands as; The Cure, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Pearl Jam, The Ramones, Nirvana and U2.
Staying faithful to their DIY attitude, the band launched their very own label ''Hopeful Tragedy Records'' in April 2007, in order to offer the self-produced EP, "And If I Was To Die In the Morning… Would I Still Be Sleeping With You", released that following June. This EP sold more than 30,000 thousand units and landed them a first European promotional headlining tour, where they got to perform in such great cities as; London, Berlin, Paris and Cologne. The following year, they were mentioned as one of the top 5 bands to watch out for in 2008 by Billboard Magazine… A quote that would be hard to deny after the incredible success of their first Japanese tour and 60 thousands hard copies sold of their second album, “Love Is A Promise Whispering Goodbye”, released in June. The band has also been the first international artist to ever write theme songs for the legendary video game franchise Final Fantasy, a soundtrack album that reached the number 1 spot on the Japanese charts. That same year, their label ''Hopeful Tragedy Records'' launched a multi-media branch that led to the production of different shows on the ''YFE-TV Channel'' such as the independent broadcasting of real time live concerts of the band.
Your Favorite Enemies acquired a former catholic church and presbytery, in which 2 professional studios have been built, facilities for live streaming have been installed, a full filming set has been crafted, the label offices established and their non-profit organisation promoting human rights and helping kids through music have been set up. In 2010, the band also launched the ''Secret Family Cult Club'' (S.F.C.C), a new community website, where their fans could gather, share and feel at home. A place where they would have access to exclusive footage from live performances, witness live studio sessions with band members, assist to behind the scenes photo shoots and so much more.
A year later, in April and May of 2011, Your Favorite Enemies also toured across China, playing small clubs and venues as well as the renown MIDI and ZEBRA festivals, becoming one of the first North American acts to perform such an impressive tour in that country. This amazing tour led to the release of the DVD “The Uplifting Sound Of An Epiphanic Awakening… The Enlightenment Of Letting Go”, which is not only a vibrant testimony of what became one of the most epic, uplifting and empowering performances ever offered by Your Favorite Enemies, but a moment which perfectly represents the band’s distinctive and unique way to share a true defining communion with the people.
That same year, Your Favorite Enemies visited Japan in support of the Hope Project, the band's own initiative to support survivors of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami. They visited a shelter in Minami-Sanriku and performed three concerts in Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto. Your Favorite Enemies had the honor not only to be the first band to ever play in the historic Otagi Nenbutsu-Ji Temple of Kyoto, but to capture one of the most intimate and stunning moments ever recorded by the band, which led to the release of their very first DVD exclusively offered to the S.F.C.C members.
In July of 2012, as a part of the ''Ceremony & Jubilation'' project launched by Your Favorite Enemies in order to celebrate the last 5 years of the band, they released a very special album called ''Vague Souvenir"; an album displaying a unique and intimate journey consisting of 14 songs and 14 videos that were all recorded in their studio-church. This album, revealing a more acoustic and softer side of Your Favorite Enemies, was extremely well received by fans worldwide.
The upcoming year is going to be one of the most exciting for Your Favorite Enemies, whose record label ''Hopeful Tragedy Records'' will be opening new branches in Australia, Europe and Japan. They will be releasing their much anticipated full length album "Between Illness And Migration" in late spring of 2013, which will also be followed by an extensive world tour!
