"...But what really sets Rory apart from others playing similar music is the vocals. Holy hell this dude can sing.." Dan Wolovick, Two Way Monologues
Rory Taillon is serious about music. He's been playing guitar and professionally training his pipes for over a decade, and with the release of his debut EP "Closure" in January 2012, fans all over Ontario have gotten a taste of the music wrought by that dedication: a mesh of grungy acoustic rock, rootsy blues, and introspective folk married to Rory's signature vocal style that leaves audiences spellbound.
"Closure" was written almost entirely by Taillon, and comes alive both in solo performances and full-ensemble shows with his band Rory Taillon and The Old Souls. Produced by Theo Posthumus at Chalet Recording Studio and The Rhythm Complex, the six-song EP eschews slick production and recording parlor tricks in favor of a raw, deeply personal ambience that highlights Rory's honest lyrics and the deceptively simple melody and percussion lines that listeners find so captivating.
Since the EP's release, Rory hasn't gone a week without a gig - from radio appearances to a full six-week solo tour in the fall of 2012 that took him all over Ontario, the man works hard and plays hard. And it's paid off in the form of Durham Region Music Society nominations for Rock Recording of the Year and overall Recording of the Year for 2012. It seems the New Artist in the Community Award he won in 2007 was just the writing on the wall.
Rory is currently launching a second solo tour, to be announced soon, and can be found wherever a stage will have him. If you haven't heard him yet, don't worry - you will.
"In other words, this man’s a tenor POWERHOUSE who could easily give Michael Crawford a run for his money." Rose Cora Perry, The Beat Magazine
