Men in Suits is a Toronto band of business executives founded in 1998. Until recently a cover band, we've raised over $1 million for charities. We're now composing and recording our own songs. Yep, bankers doing hip hop.
Men In Suits (MIS) is described by the Globe and Mail as "Bay Street's hardest working rock band." We’re not all men and we don’t wear suits — at least not to gigs. Founded in 1998 we only play charity events and don’t charge for our services (we once added up the combined effective hourly rate of the band members and decided nobody could actually afford us….)
In the past have supported charities such as CAMH (The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Classroom Connections and several Toronto are schools.
We are mainly a dance band. Our repertoire spans the 60’s through to the present so there is something for almost every age and musical peccadillo.
Recently we've begun to record our own original music and arrangements of standards. Gerry Throop and Trish Fonberg are lead singers; Don Tapscott on keyboards (including B3); Jim Hardy, lead quitar; Stewart Borden on bass and Vince Mazza on Drums. For our Canadian Music Week gig and upcoming album, we've added Duke McKenzie, a Toronto based Business Executive, Banker and Hip Hop composer and performer to the roster.
