Chris Ibey

President & CEO,
TOERSA Security
Ottawa, ON, Canada
Chris Ibey founded TOERSA Security (toersa.com) in 2008 when he saw a need for a higher level of professionalism and customer service in the security industry. With a background in HR Management and over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Chris puts a strong focus on employee training and developing the best behaviors in team members.

TOERSA employs over 400 employees working with over a hundred clients in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Teams of about a dozen staff up to over two hundred on shift at a time, focus on festivals, fairs and events (gates, perimeter, patrols, beer tents, stage barricade, artist protection, and first aid), bars, restaurants, nightclubs, museums, event centres, retail locations and private companies. Some noteable festival clients for close to a decade include one of Canada’s largest – Ottawa Bluesfest, as well as Ottawa Jazz Festival, Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, and CityFolk.

He has been invited to provide expert witness testimony for court cases involving over-service at bars, crowd safety at festivals, gun violence in night clubs and overall patron safety. Each year Chris also trains hundreds of security, event staff and volunteers about the Responsible Service of Alcohol.

Proper emergency planning has helped with full or partial site evacuations when affected by natural disaster, handling caller bomb threats, suspicious packages, crowd dynamics and weapons violence. Emergency planning also helps with overall safety in managing pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow.

For major event planning and execution he has worked closely with local Police Services, Public Transit Officials, AGCO Inspectors, Engineers, Paramedic Services and recently on Parliament Hill with the Parliamentary Protective Service (RCMP) and the PM’s Protective Detail. Chris has worked with RCMP for planning public protest response/prevention during pharmaceutical conferences, public addresses given by ambassadors, and education policy summits. He has also provided protective details for corporate executives, foreign Royal Family members, foreign ambassadors, celebrities, professional athletes, and Olympians.
