Darlene Tonelli is an entertainment and IP lawyer and the founder of Inter Alia Law® (www.interalia-law.com). Inter Alia Law provides experienced in-house counsel services to entertainment, media and technology companies.

Each Inter Alia lawyer has significant experience gained in-house at companies like Live Nation, Microsoft, Corus Entertainment, and Shaw Communications. Inter Alia lawyers represent many of Canada’s top tech, entertainment and media companies, in addition to advising individual artists, songwriters, production companies, and animation studios on licensing and day to day business issues.

Darlene previously spent 8 years at Universal Music Canada, where she was Vice President, Business Development and Corporate Affairs. At Universal, Darlene oversaw music licensing, and was tasked with building new digital business models. In that role, she worked on the acquisition of EMI Music Canada, as well as several groundbreaking license deals to bring music to Canadian listeners in new ways. She teaches Music Licensing at the Osgoode PD Certificate on Entertainment Law, and has been active in advocacy on behalf of the music industry. She was a deputant to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage regarding digital music, and collaborated with Music Canada on The Next Big Bang: A New Direction for Music in Canada, a significant research project conducted to encourage innovation and growth in the Canadian music industry.

Prior to Universal, Darlene was a lawyer at Goodmans LLP. Darlene graduated from the U of T Faculty of Law in 2001, and was called to the bar in 2003.
