Dean Ormston

Dean Ormston is a senior executive in the Australian Music industry and has worked with APRA AMCOS for nearly 20 years. He is currently the Head of Member Services and oversees the company’s Membership, Distribution, International, Communications and Government Relations portfolios.

Ormston has worked closely with Federal and State Governments in lobbying for the recognition and support of creator's rights and secured government support and investment in Australia’s music industry export initiative, Sounds Australia, and the domestic live music sector in establishing the National Live Music Office.

In 2014 Ormston established government and APRA AMCOS co-funded initiatives for song-writing residencies in high schools (SongMakers) and international songwriting collaborations for Australian songwriters (SongHubs).

Ormston has initiated research projects relating to the economic contribution of the Australian venue-based live music industry and most recently, the potential application of tax-offsets to the commercial music industry.

Ormston is a Board Director of Screenrights and current Deputy Chair of the Australian Copyright Council.

In a former life Ormston was a high school music teacher.
